Stand alone photographic works

In his photographic work “light” has an equal importance as the material elements of the same pictures. In this way light becomes a subject and active actor in the total composition.
The composition and the content of his pictures are tributary to the Dutch 'genre” painting of the 17
th century, but here without the human actors. His pictures show interiors wherein the focus is on one wall and what's happening on that wall. Sometimes his own artwork — even his own photographic work — becomes part of the scene.
Furthermore, Erwin explores the high tech printed photographic color image as a painted piece of art. In that way he researches the pictorial qualities of contemporary professional ink-jet technology.

The pictures are finished on mat art paper mounted on DiBond 4 mm with aluminium hanging.

In the series “Edition Six Vanscapes” Erwin uses also pure photographic work, but this time from an extreme opposite: not from within silence and fixation but from within almost impossible recording positions: a moving van on high-speed on a highway. He does this without the photographic trick of “moving” images but with a realistic sense of feeling for the documentary of the contemporary view of travelling Western humans: see Editions and Artist's books
